At least 10 people died yesterday evening after a bomb exploded in ftont of the Jimeta modern market in Yola, Adamawa. I have some photos from the scene and it's quite horrific. See them after the cut. *warning - graphic photos*

Senate approves life imprisonment for rape, 10 years for incest and Child Pornography

The Senate yesterday passed the Sexual Offences Bill which approves life imprisonment for gang rape, 10 years for incest, another 10 years imprisonment for child pornography and a fine of N2 million as well as 14 years jail term for any other form of sexual offences committed in Nigeria.

The sponsor of the bill and Chairman, Senate Committee on Defence, Senator Chris Anyanwu, said the bill, which had been in the senate since 2013, amongst other things 'seeks to make a comprehensive legislation on sexual offences by criminalizing certain acts such as sexual tourism, child pornography and cultural and religious sexual offences in our criminal jurisprudence".

The Senate passed the bill yesterday during the "rush hour" plenary session in which 46 bills were passed in 10 minutes.

FIFA President Sepp Blatter announces he'll be stepping down from office

FIFA President Sepp Blatter has announced he will be resigning from office as President of the World football body soon. Making the announcement today, Mr Blatter, 79, who was re-elected for a fifth term only four days ago, said the world football governing body will hold an extraordinary congress to elect his successor as soon as possible.
"I decided to stand again for election because I thought it was the best option. The election is closed but the challenges have not come to an end. FIFA needs a profound restructuring. Although the members of Fifa have re-elected me president, this mandate does not seem to be supported by everybody in the world of football. This is why I will call an extraordinary congress and step down." he said
This is coming after many called for his resignation following the bribery scandal that engulfed the football governing body and arrest of several top officials.

Kidnappers den in Ibadan uncovered, fake currency notes, cars found

The police in Oyo state yesterday June 1st uncovered a shrine where fake currencies(pounds, euros, dollars) are produced in Isase, Ojoku, in Ona Ara Local Government Area of the state. The state commissioner of Police, Mohammed Katsina while taking pressmen on an inspection of the area, said the the den was discovered through intelligence gathering. Fake currencies, including Euros, Pounds, Dollars as well as fetish things(charms, statues, cowries) were discovered in the place. Also cars including two Toyota Camry and a Nissan Almera were discovered at the shrine. See the photos after the cut..

Boko Haram: Pres. Buhari to visit Chad, Niger on Wed and Thurs

In a bid to find a lasting solution to the continued attacks by Boko Haram members, President Buhari will on Wednesday June 3rd visit Niger Republic and on Thursday June 4th visit Chad where he is expected to hold talks with the Presidents of both countries.

Spokesperson to President Buhari, Shehu Garba in a statement he released today said;
"Buhari will go to Niger Republic on Wednesday and will spend a night there before proceeding to Chad the next day (Thursday)."

Impeached Adamawa Governor, Murtala Nyako in EFCC Custody

The impeached governor of Adamawa state, Murtala Nyako who returned to the country over the weekend from a self imposed exile after he was impeached in July 2014, is currently being interrogated by EFCC officials in Abuja.

According to Sahara Reporters, Nyako turned himself in to the anti-graft agency earlier today June 1st. He is being interrogated over allegations bordering on financial impropriety and gross misconduct which are the reasons why he was impeached from office.
