NEWS UPDATE: Kano bombers disguised as fruit sellers

Hide bombs inside wheelbarrows laden with bananas, oranges
…My escape was divine, says motorist who went for car keys at drinking bar
More details emerged yesterday on Monday's twin explosions by Boko Haram in Kano metropolis even as survivors recounted how they cheated death. The Joint Security Task Force (JTF) and the police said 12 people died while 12 others were injured. Ohanaeze Ndigbo disagreed with the figures, saying 45 people lost their lives.

It was confirmed yesterday that the lone bomber hid the Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in a wheelbarrow, disguising as a fruit seller before they were detonated at New and Enugu/Igbo Road, all in Sabon-Gari, populated by non-indigenes, mostly the Igbos. One explosion went off at 41 New Road, the Christ Salvation Pentecostal Church at the peak of evening worship.

An eyewitness, Mazi Columba Ndubuisi, told Daily Sun that the Boko Haram bomber arrived in  Enugu Road, with a wheelbarrow, adding that the terrorist pretended to be selling watermelon, oranges and bananas. According to him, the attacker hid the IEDs inside the wheelbarrow under the bananas and oranges, adding that after roaming innocently for a while, he parked the wheelbarrow near the shop of one Mama Ejima by the side of a parked Mercedes Benz car. Ndubuisi said he trades on fire -fighting equipment very close to the scene of the blasts, when the boy parked his wheelbarrow casually, some people were actually calling him to come and sell to them, but they surprisingly noticed that the boy, rather than selling, made his way to the main road, leaving his wares.

He said barely a few minutes after, the bomb exploded killing the woman (Mama Ejima) and several other people. Another witness, who is simply called Mr. Eddy, said typical of the fellowship, worshippers separated themselves from their children, adding that the kids were roaming about the scene when the first device exploded near their play-point. The witness, who was watching football in a nearby bar when the first blast occurred, recalled that following the shocking explosion, the whole scenario was thrown into confusion, with several people sustaining injuries, while many more died of the first blast.
He said that just minutes after the first blast, when they were trying to escape, the second exploded, trapping some people who had dared to run in the direction of the first blast.
Mr. Eddy, who resides in the same building where the church is located, said several people died on account of the blasts, including three persons who sat close to him at their drinking table.

"There was smoke everywhere. People were running everywhere, people were lying on the ground, many motorists jumped inside their cars and sped off. They came here with four pick-up vans to carry the bodies. I did not count them, but I know that they were many," he added. Meanwhile, several families were yet to discover the whereabouts of their relatives. Daily Sun learnt that at least, eight wounded persons were hospitalized.

Speaking from his hospital bed at the Emergency Unit of the Armed Forces Hospital in the state capital, Mr Chika Ekenne said the blasts took them by surprise, adding that but for the mercy of God, he would have died from the explosion. Ekenne, who had deep wounds on his left shoulder in addition to several sharp cuts, said that he was hit by the second explosion that occurred in New Road area of Sabon -Garri Area.

According to the victim, who was wreathing in pains at press time, he was a resident of Abuja, who had come to the state to finish a business, adding that he went to the particular scene in the company of a friend to give some money to his daughter, who was to transfer the same to another of his children, who is  in school.
Mr. Ekenne, who hails from Etiti in Mbaino in Imo State told Daily Sun that when the first bomb exploded by the side of the church, a number of people at the drinking bar escaped, adding that unfortunately, he forgot his keys when he fled in fright.
He recalled that in the midst of the thick billowing smoke, thinking that it was a single blast, he ran back, only to be hit by the second explosion which stuck him and threw particles at him.

While pleading that they should not tell his wife about his current state and tragedy, he noted that his wife may not be able to stand the shock.
Meanwhile, a statement signed by JTF spokesman, Capt. Ikedeche Iweha, said Boko Haram detonated the bombs which killed 12 people and injured 12 others, while 19 vehicles were destroyed.

According to the JTF, the incident could have been avoided if the residents had maintained vigilance by reporting to the authorities, strange objects. Capt. Iweha recalled that the task force had urged people to keep an eye on their environments as there was a tip-off that the terror group had planned to attack Kano.
Also, the state police command, in a statement by Mr. Magaji Magiya, confirmed the JTF's casualty figures.

Reacting to the attack, president of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Kano State Chapter, Chief Tobias Michael Idika, claimed that 45 people were killed even as he called on President Goodluck Jonathan to take urgent steps to strengthen security of lives and property of residents in the northern parts of the country.

In a statement, the apex Igbo group said: "Ohanaeze account can confirm 39 deaths in New Road and six in Enugu/Igbo Road,  and an unspecified number of people who got injured. The terrorists invaded Sabon-Gari, an enclave carved out for non-natives and planted Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) which exploded almost simultaneously at Enugu/Igbo Road, near International Hotel and on New Road, directly opposite the popular Ado Bayero Square precisely at Nos 38, 39, 40 and 41.
"At 41 New Road, the Christ Salvation Pentecostal Church was also bombed at the peak of evening worship." The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), through its state chairman, Bishop Ramos Bello, condemned the attack. He prayed God to receive the departed souls and comfort the wounded. He appealed for deployment of more troops in the state.

Meanwhile, the state government has condemned the attack. Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso who visited the scenes, described the attack as devastating. He promised to pay for the treatment of the injured victims.

See Pastor who's Sperm is A Sacred Milk

Valdeci Sobrino Picanto is a Brazilian Evangelical Pastor. He has been arrested after deceiving the faithful using the name of the "Holy Spirit", by saying foolish lies.

He said his joystick was blessed and that "the Lord had consecrated him with divine milk of the ''Holy Spirit" and, of course, he had to release it in order to "evangelize".

"He has convinced us that only God could come into our lives through our mouth and that's why he would do what he did". Often, after worship, pastor Valdeci would take us to where the funds were kept at the back of the Church and asked us to have Oral sex with him until the Holy Spirit would come through ***********". This is the testimony of one of his victims.
The pastor is already in jail, but said he intends to continue watering his cellmates with his sacred milk.

Data show Nigerians the most educated in the US

For Woodlands resident David Olowokere, one of Nigeria's sons, having a master's degree in engineering just wasn't enough for his people back home. So he got a doctorate.

His wife, Shalewa Olowokere, a civil engineer, didn't stop at a bachelor's, either. She went for her master's.

The same obsession with education runs in the Udeh household in Sugar Land. Foluke Udeh and her husband, Nduka, both have master's degrees. Anything less, she reckons, would have amounted to failure.

"If you see an average Nigerian family, everybody has a college degree these days," said Udeh, 32, a physical therapist at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center. "But a post-graduate degree, that's like pride for the family."

Nigerian immigrants have the highest levels of education in this city and the nation, surpassing whites and Asians, according to Census data bolstered by an analysis of 13 annual Houston-area surveys conducted by Rice University.

Although they make up a tiny portion of the U.S. population, a whopping 17 percent of all Nigerians in this country held master's degrees while 4 percent had a doctorate, according to the 2006 American Community Survey conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau. In addition, 37 percent had bachelor's degrees.

SHOCKING: 27-Yr-Old Killed By Friend Over Mobile Phone

A 27-year-old man was killed by his friend, weekend, over the ownership of a mobile phone charger.
The tragedy occurred at Isapodo area of Ijebu-Ife, in Ijebu North-East Local Government Area of Ogun State on Sunday.
The victim, Mr Dele Oje, described as an easy going person by his neighbours, was said to have been allegedly killed by his friend, simply identified as Muyideen after the latter requested for a phone charger from the former.
Investigations revealed that Oje had earlier argued with his friend over who owned the charger minutes before he was killed.
Shortly before his death, an argument had ensued between the duo, prompting neighbours in the two-storey building to intervene.
Unfortunately, the neighbours had barely left the scene of the argument, when Dele's friend descended on him as the deceased attempted to have his breakfast and slashed his throat with a sharp object.
A neighbour of the deceased who did not want to be named, narrated what she described as an unfortunate incident, said: "We had earlier settled a seeming quarrel between the friends over the ownership of a telephone charger when Muyideen killed his friend''.
'We got there later only to see blood stains on the wall and floor of the building,  an indication that Oje had attempted to escape from his assailant''.
Another resident who identified himself as Abayomi Oyeyemi also said that after the murder, Muyideen fled only to be fished out in a near-by bush, three hours after.
The body has been deposited at the Ijebu-Ode General Hospital mortuary while Muyideen who was arrested by the youths in the community had been handed over to police at the Ogbere division.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Muyiwa Adejobi, who said he was yet to be briefed by the Ogbere Divisional Police Officer, added that he did not have details of the incident.

Serious Matter: "I must date with a man for 5yrs before I marry him by Eniola

"I must date with a man for 5yrs before I marry him' -Eniola Badmus

When asked about her marriage plans in a new interview, Nollywood actress Eniola Badmus said she must date a guy for at least five years before she will consider marrying him. Eniola said:

"What is the point if I marry today and tomorrow it's over? What's the essence? I am living my life. I will have a baby when necessary. Marriage is good but what's the essence of me getting married today and tomorrow I'm not in it? For any man I am going to marry or call my husband we should be together for five years before we walk down the aisle. We may have children but at least after five years I will know that you're ready for me. Not getting married today, and tomorrow he's out! I've seen it happen to my friends, I don't want to go through that trauma.

Erm, that you date a guy for five years doesn't guarantee that the marriage will last…or does it?

WICKEDNESS! Nurse Sets 11-Yr Old Girl Ablaze

Doctors at the General Hospital, Gbagada, Lagos, southwest Nigeria, are seriously battling to save the life of an 11-year old girl, Ita Bassey-Eno, who was allegedly set ablaze by the woman she lives with, Mrs Nkese Iroakazi, a nurse at a hospital in Surulere.

Iroakazi was alleged to have poured kerosene on Bassey-Eno before lighting a match stick to set her ablaze after the girl was said to have stolen a piece of meat from the pot.

Witnesses said the girl ran out of their apartment at  7, Adeniran Ogunsanya Street, Surulere, unto to the main road with fire all over her body as she cried for help from passers-by to rescue her.

It was gathered that someone quickly stopped his vehicle and used his fire extinguisher to put out the flame on her body.

The incident, which occurred last Saturday, was immediately reported at the Bode Thomas Police Station and the police from the station arrested Mrs. Nkese.

The little girl was rushed to the Burns and Trauma Centre, an annex of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital at the General Hospital, Gbagada, for urgent attention as the doctors in the hospital said she had suffered 95 percent burns and would take a miracle for her to survive.

Bassey-Eno's private part was damaged, while almost all her body is burnt. The whole of her body, except her face and her feet, are bandaged, while she wears pampers because her private part was damaged.

On her hospital bed on Monday when P.M.NEWS visited, the little was groaning in pains while health officials described Nkese as callous woman and that she must be made to face the music.

Executive Director, Esther Child Rights Foundation, ECRF, Mrs. Esther Ogwu, who was at the hospital to see the girl, wept when she saw her pathetic state, saying that in all her life as human rights activist, she had never come across such a gruesome case as that of  the little girl.

According to Ogwu, "the situation is terrible. The doctor said the girl suffered 95 percent burns and that her private part has been damaged. This woman is more than wicked. Justice must take its course.

"One of the health officials at the General Hospital, Gbagada called me and said a woman poured kerosene on the little girl staying with her and lit up a match stick and set her ablaze. The girl ran out of the house to the main road where a Good Samaritan used her car fire extinguisher to put out the fire."

Little Bassey-Eno, who hails from Akwa Ibom State, southsouth Nigeria, was brought from the village with another girl, Happiness Okon-Bassey, 13, to live with Nkese in June 2013 on the premose that she would send them to school, but that was not to be as the two girls allegedly performed the function of domestic servants for Nkese.

The second house girl, Okon-Bassey, said she did not see when her colleague was set ablaze but that she heard her screaming when their mistress was beating her shortly before the she saw flame all over her body when she ran outside their home.

She alleged that they were maltreated and beaten thoroughly very often and that they had no time to rest as they work almost throughout the day for their mistress without going to school, saying that they normally eat twice daily.

Daughter of the alleged culprit, Ijeoma Akiti, 27, said she was not at home when the incident occurred and that she could not tell whether her mother poured kerosene on the little girl's body and set her ablaze, but that she heard such story at the police station.

She said her mother was first married to her father and later remarried into the family of Iroakazi and that her mother's husband had gone on a business trip to the eastern part of Nigeria.

At the Bode Thomas Police Station, police sources alleged that the little girl confessed that her mistress poured kerosene on her. The police at the station said the woman would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Panti for further investigation into the matter, but Ogwu alleged that the police were trying to shield the woman from prosecution.

In her statement at the police station, Iroakazi denied that she poured kerosene on the little girl's body and set her ablaze.

According to her, she was in the sitting room when she heard a loud cry and rushed out only to see the girl on fire and called on people to help put out the fire.

Officials of the Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, WAPA, were at the hospital and the police station where they spoke with the woman, but she denied the story.

WAPA officials took Okon-Bassey, the second girl with them for rehabilitation pending when she would be reconciled with her real mother.

"If my husband cheats, I will castrate him' - Uche Jombo says in new interview

In this interview with Sam Olatunji, Uche Jombo speaks on cheating and new movie 'Unconditional'.

What is it with the celebrity kids on your new movie, 'Unconditional'?
We didn't set out to use celebrity kids. I told everyone including you the age range I want and people suggested the kids. Aghahowa's daughter has wanted to act since age 5, we auditioned Chigozie, and she did well and got a coach to coach them. 2face's daughter is just a drama queen. And this movie, Unconditional is not all about them, Dakore, Ruth Kadiri and I acted in it. It's the kind of move that will touch the heart.
If your husband were to be a serial philanderer like Desmond's character in the movie, Lies Men Tell, what will you do?
I will castrate him, he knows and believes that. To me, there is no excuse to cheat, its either you are with someone or not, and if you are tired of the person, please accord the person decency of respect by saying it's over. Don't go making someone look stupid. The problem with me is there is no in- between.
Do you believe what you are saying or are you saying it for the purpose of this interview?
I am saying,Uche Jombo-Rodrigues doesn't have in-between. That is the reason it takes me long time to make a decision or take a stand on something, but when I do, that is it. There is no excuse not to honour an agreement you have made, this doesn't have anything to do with this interview. It is the principle that guides me. It is not just about marriage, it's how I conduct my relationships, its either it is this or that, if that is mymind-set in a relationship, you should know that for marriage it'll be 150%. There is no room for cheating.

So you believe your husband will or should not cheat on you?
I don't have control over what someone will do, I'm not God. I'm talking about me, how I conduct things. It's not an option that it will happen, I will not tolerate cheating.

Are you saying you will not forgive the man who cheats on you and is manly enough to say I'm sorry?
If you are in that situation Sam, oh God! You are going to slave for me for life. And do you know any man that will want to slave for a woman for life, answer?

Is it true you are older than your husband and the man you dated before him?
I have never dated or married someone I was older than in my life. If you have the illusion of someone's age, that is your business, and I am even too mature for my age. That is the problem, because men of my age are 'small boys' around me, I can't date them. I am someone who has to become a mother to some of my siblings at the age of 14. Because you are an under-achiever does not mean I should play down on my achievement. If age is the yard stick for you to succeed, you should not judge people with it, I don't have an apology. If I'm learning from people who are older than me that is because I don't hang out with my age mates; I don't think there is anything else you want to teach me, and if you want to judge me by the people I hang out with or by when I started my hustle, where the hell were you at that time?  What really matters to me is that people who know me during my not-too-proud days are so proud that, this is me now. I have come far, it's something I'm grateful for, and I couldn't have even written it better if it were a story.

They also said I'm a drop out, from the way you and I have been speaking, do I speak like someone who did not go to school? I have decided to follow the advice of those who said I should not join issues with her and her supporters. I am not a celebrity. I am an estate developer. 8 Lesbian Girls Expelled From Secondary School...

Barely a week after the the local newspaper covered a story about the rising number of lesbians in Girls High Schools all over the country, the administration has now sent home eight girls over the matter.
The school's principal, Pacifica Nyambong'i said that a group of eight students in Form Two, who were also jointly being investigated for arson claims, had been sent home and others readmitted after undergoing counseling and promising to change. The principal admitted that some Form Two students confessed to being lesbians who had lovers in the school while other girls denied the allegations.
"I received a note listing some girls as suspected lesbians who also planned to burn down the school on December 10th, we embarked on investigations to unearth the truth," Ms Nyambog'i revealed. Those who confessed to being lesbians were forgiven, counseled and readmitted but those who denied were sent home.
The parents of those sent home have however mounted a strong defence to the allegations claiming that their girls were beaten during the interrogations in order to admit by force.
Also, Anglican run St James Girls High School in Zimbabwe has been hit by a lesbian s*x scandal which has resulted in the expulsion of pupils, one of them for offering a teacher s*x in exchange for lenience after being caught in the act.
The scandal reportedly started in June when two Form Six pupils were caught by fellow pupils in the middle of the night having a nice time under the sheets, BMetro reported. A report was made to school authorities.
After a probe, the two girls (names withheld) were suspended for two weeks. According to a source, the pupils showed remorse during the disciplinary hearing and promised to give up the lesbian antics. On returning to school after serving the sentence, the two are said to have kept a distance from each other.
"Everyone was convinced that they had indeed stopped their behaviour. They even stopped talking to each other and we all thought that the relationship was over. Little did we know that we were being fooled," said a source.

Exposed: See DJ Khaled’s Real Wife [Photos]

DJ Khaled proposed publicly to Nicki Minaj last week, and spoke more on his actions in a recent interview. This is as good a time as any to mention that DJ Khaled is already married.

The DJ and We The Best exec spoke to Power 106′s DJ Felli Fel about the proposal, and pretty much kept in character. "I just had to be honest man, I always liked her, she's my friend of course. I liked her, it's more than a crush…," said Khaled. "She out there hustling and I respect. I feel that I can take of her."

Nevertheless—unless they recently broke up—Khaled is married, we think, to Nicole Tuck. The couple was spotted at the 2012 Grammy Awards (see below) and here, too. Interestingly, she was credited as a "spiritual advisor" on his 2010 Victory album and also earned a Master's Degree from Fordham University.

Khaled's album, 'Suffering from Success' is due out on September 24th, so you can be sure the proposal was most likely just a publicity stunt.

Music video director Aswad Ayinde jailed 90 yrs for fathering 6 kids with his own daughters

Music video director Aswad Ayinde, 55, who won an MTV award for directing The Fugees' 'Killing Me Softly' in 1996, has been sentenced to 90 years in prison for repeatedly raping his six daughters and fathering six children with them. *spits out* how disgusting is this guy?

Aswad Ayinde is accused of raping his daughters to create a "pure" bloodline, fathered six kids with them from the mid-1980s to 2002 - and delivered the babies himself, the court heard during his trial last Friday
"He said the world was going to end, and it was just going to be him and his offspring and that he was chosen," his ex-wife, Beverly Ayinde testified at a pre-trial hearing.
Prosecutors said Ayinde kept the kids from blabbing about the rape by beating them and isolating them from other children. All his daughters were home schooled.
"I was afraid to ever accuse him of being demented or being a pedophile," Beverly Ayinde, who had 9 children with him told the court. "I knew the word, but I wouldn't dare use it because it would result in a beating."
Prosecutors revealed that Mr. Ayinde began having sex with his second daughter from the time she eight-years-old, impregnating her four times. He faces three more trials over the alleged assaults.

Nando is the one that instigated the fight. Instigation and provocation is a violation of the Big Brother rules. "Any Housemate who becomes physically violent will be removed from the House immediately. Violence can refer to self-inflicted violence, or violence towards another. Violence includes provocation, goading, bullying and victimisation," said Biggie. This season Big Brother has imposed a Three Strike Rulu, which will be applicable to Housemates who commit serious infringements. For this fight Nando received his second Strike and Elikem was has served with his first Strike. Afterwards the Tanzanian was called into the Diary Room. He was given his third Strike for making threats against Elikem's life, saying: "I feel like stabbing him. A nigga like that deserves to die". And he was also caught sleeping with scissors under his bed and this is not the first time that he has been caught with a weapon in the House. The troubled young fellow has had a dramatic nine weeks in The Chase. Last month he was served with a Strike and a stern warning from Big Brother after he was found carrying a knife to the Channel O Party. The possession of weapons or intention to be violent in the Big Brother House is another violation of the Big Brother rules. After the Diary session Nando was told to immediately exit the House. Big Brother then gave a warning to the Housemates to conduct themselves as adults.

No Plans To Call Off The Strike – ASUU National President

National President of ASUU, Dr. Nasir Fagge, said he was surprised to hear that the union was going to call off the strike on Thursday when the issues tabled before government had not been resolved.
ASUU had embarked on an indefinite strike over the inability of the Federal Government to implement the 2009 agreement it willingly entered into with the union.
"There is nothing like that (suspending the strike). I am also surprised to hear people say that we are going to call off the strike," Faggae said.
"Our members have made it categorically clear what they want. This meeting we had with government on Friday at the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, is just exploratory.
"We are trying to look at issues holistically and see how we are going to address them. So assignments were given to various people that attended the meeting and the expectation is that we will meet tomorrow (today), Monday and look at the assignment given and also look at it on Thursday again.
"So, that is why I'm surprised to hear people say that we are going to suspend strike on Thursday. The mandate of our members is very clear. So, we will wait and see what the Monday and Thursday meetings unfold and then we report back to our members."
Fagge however said convening meetings with members was never a problem as ASUU was in constant consultation with its members, and would convene another meeting after deliberations with the government on Thursday.

"After the meeting, we will decide when to link up with our members depending upon what is placed on table on Thursday."
Fagge did not refute the speculation that the union might suspend the strike if the government met up to 50 per cent of the agreement, but he said the union would prefer to get to the bridge before crossing it.
Speaking further, Fagge commended the positive disposition of the Joint Senate and House of Representatives Committee on Education towards the resolution of the crisis.
"For us, the interaction we have had with the Joint Committee clearly indicates that they are concerned like other Nigerians.
"This is expected of the representatives of people. You see the problem has always been that the executive arm of government does not really hearken to advise that are given on how best to address the problems on education in this country.
"We are convinced as a union that the only thing the government can really do for Nigerians is to avail them of education.
"Once you are able to do that, you will see that people will be able to generate jobs and they will be able to take care of themselves and contribute to nation building. So that is the argument we are placing on the table," Fagge said.

May God take control.

Ladies Watch It: How to Know If You Are Meant for Each Other

There are times in a relationship when certain signs point to the fact that you and Mr. X are not meant to be together. After you’ve already dedicated time getting to know someone, getting attached to the person, and getting involved in their lives, it’s depressing to think that that was all just a waste of time.

But you know, the real waste of time is spending your life with someone you’re not really into. Below are some signs to tell if you should leave or stay:

You’re happier when he’s not around
You probably haven’t thought about it, or haven’t pinpointed it as such, but in reality, you are happier when he’s not in the room, than when he is. Plain and simple: you know what happiness feels like, and you’re not feeling it around him. Continue after the cut...

FG, ASUU Meet; May Call Off Strike Next week

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has indicated that it may call off its indefinite strike next week. The Academic Union hinted after several agreements were reached with the federal
government during talks which was held yesterday.   After hours of talks behind closed doors, the chairman of the 19-man committee, Governor Gabriel Suswam said it had resolved many of the outstanding issues with the ASUU except two which would be tackled at a resumed meeting next week. Governor Suswam explained that the committee will work assiduously to wipe out all issues that have led to strikes for several decades as well as enhance the internally generated revenue base of all public universities in the country.

Atleast this is a good news.

UPDATE! Varsity Strike: ASUU rejects new deal with government

Efforts to resolve the strike by Nigeria's Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), may take a longer time as the union on has rejected Federal Government's plan to re-negotiate their 2009 Agreement. The Chairman of UNN-ASUU, Dr Ifeanyi Abada, made this position known while briefing newsmen in Nsukka after a congress attended by some national and zonal officers.
Abada explained that the union took this stand because government did not sign the agreement under duress He said UNN-ASUU and other chapters of the union nationwide were determined to withdraw their services until the federal government implemented the agreement. ASUU cannot be cajoled by any unbridled campaign or blackmail as being paddled by some federal government's officials."The union is worried by the insincerity of government and condemns this perfidy in its entirety'', he said. Abada said ASUU was also demanding the removal of Prof. Julius Okogie, the NUC Secretary, for fanning the embers of hatred against members of the union. Okogie, who is supposed to mediate between ASUU and government, had regrettably morphed into another political valve through which universities were further demeaned and derailed."Okogie should be invited by government to account for over N100 billion Universities Stabilisation Fund. He has demonstrated that he has outlived his usefulness and bereft of innovative ideas and aptitude to turn universities around'', he said. He called on education stakeholders, the clergy and traditional rulers to prevail on government to respect the 2009 agreement it entered with ASUU to improve standards in tertiary institutions. We are not asking for government to fill our pockets with money, but that universities should be well funded."It is unfortunate that students in some universities take lectures in open spaces and in stadiums like in UNN. We are tired of producing half-baked graduates because of ill-equipped libraries, laboratories and lack of classrooms, while some politicians squander money meant to develop the country'', he said.Former UNN-ASUU chairman, Prof. Aloysius Okolie, decried government's inability to allocate 26 per cent of its annual budget to educationHe explained that that was the minimum percentage as recommended by UNESCO.This is an indication that government does not care about the quality of education in the country. Government should consider the future of Nigerian students and fulfill its own part of agreement it reached with ASUU "It is noteworthy that war torn Somalia and other smaller countries of the world who value education allocate above 26 per cent to education'', he said.Dr Chide Osuagwu, Zonal Coordinator, ASUU Nsukka Zone, comprising UNN, UNiZIK, ESUT, Anambra State University and Ebony State University, said ASUU had exercised enough patience since 2009. ASUU will not attend any re-negotiating meeting called by government. If government had known it cannot implement the agreement, why did it sign it?'' About 200 lecturers attended the UNN-ASUU congress, which lasted for several hours.
May God take charge!

Underage Marriage Is Our Rights As Muslims – Asari Dokubo

The Niger Delta self declared militant, Mujahid Abubakr Asari Dokubo has given his opinion concerning the Underage Marriage Bill recently approved.

He took to facebook page to express his opinion on the issues.

“People should learn to respect other people’s sensibilities. We Muslims have the right to marry when we want or give out our daughters at any age we want. It is not your business and the law must respect our right to do so.

Anything short of that is an infringement on our rights. We did not ask you to marry ladies of that age or give your daughters out in marriage at that age. Plzzzzzzzz respect our sensibilities.”

National Assembly approves N4.9trn in 2013 budget amendment

The National Assembly on Thursday approved a total of N4, 987, 220,425,601 in the amendment requested by President Jonathan. This is coming following the drama which had trailed the 2013 budget as regard
to the disagreement between the Presidency and the National Assembly.   Despite the differences between the executive and legislature over the amendment, the Senate and the House of Representatives swiftly considered and passed the bill. The amount captured in the amendment is almost the same with the earlier figure approved by the lawmakers in the original budget. The total budget passed by the Senate was N4.987 trillion, out of which N388 billion was for statutory transfers, N591 billion for debt service, N2.415 trillion for recurrent (non-debt) expenditure, while the balance of N1.591 trillion was earmarked for contribution to the development fund for capital expenditure for the year ending on the 31 December, 2013. Presidential liaison officer to the National Assembly, Joy Emordi described the passage of the bill as the triumph of constructive dialogue between the presidency and the lawmakers.
