A few weeks after news broke that some individuals defrauded students of the University of Lagos after posturing as popular Nigerian artiste, Wizkid, another set of accusations have been unearthed this time in Owerri, Imo state.
Reports say an Imo based businessman Chukwudi Ofoha had contracted the said impostor through one Ugochukwu Favour Mayor who charged the victim the sum of N1 million with N300,000 allegedly paid into the impostor's bank account in a bid to get Wizkid to perform at a show.
Read the Vanguard Newspapers report below:
An insider told Showtime that shortly after the payment was made, the impostor switched off his cell phone, thereby raising the suspicion that he was not the real Wizkid.
Based on this development, the CEO of Ibari Ogwa is said to have arrested and detained Mr Mayor at the State CID in Owerri.
Meanwhile, a source who confirmed the development to Showtime during the week hinted that the impostor is still demanding for the balance of N700,000,00 from his victim.
According to the source, the Police are already investigating the matter. But series of efforts made at press time to contact Wizkid proved abortive
Last month, the hit-maker granted journalists an interview where he decried his continuous impersonation by fraudsters. Bugged by increasing complaints and reported incidents, Wizkid expressed worry that some bandits would go to any length to perpetrate evil acts and defraud innocent fans and customers. Interestingly, one of the impostors was recently nabbed in Lagos.
