Buhari doesn’t care about you – PDP chieftain tells Christians

Hon. Ehiozuwa Johnson Agbonayinma, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, has advised Christian communities across Nigeria, to avoid being carried away by General Muhammadu Buhari’s recent romance with the faith.

According to him, Buhari’s desperation to get elected as president is behind his “overture to the church”, which he says, is contrary to his previous leanings and “public positions”.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Saturday, December 27, Agbonayinma accused the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), of having an unholy and questionable romance with the church with the aim of securing the support of the majority in the 2015 presidential election.

He added that Buhari should be informed that Nigeria does not have a place for a religious bigot and a divisive character in its presidency.

Agbonayinma said: “It is indeed worrisome that General Buhari has become very desperate to win the presidency, hence his overture to the church, where I gathered he is now being taught how to sing Christian songs which he will sing during campaign.”

“This is patently unacceptable as this dubious romance runs contrary to Buhari’s antecedents and the records of his public positions and declarations on the issue of religion.”

“This is a man who had, in the past, cared less about hurting the sensibilities of Christians with his fanatical disposition about Muslim religion.”

“He said in August 27, 2001 that he would ‘continue to show openly and inside me the total commitment to the Sharia movement that is sweeping all over Nigeria,’ and was quoted to have further declared, ‘God willing, we will not stop the agitation for the total implementation of the Sharia in the country,” the PDP chieftain added.
