UK Government Donates Forensic Equipment To EFCC

The strategic partnership between the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC and the Serious Organised Crime Agency, SOCA of the United Kingdom received a boost on Thursday, August 15, 2013 with the donation of forensic information technology equipment to the Commission by the British law enforcement agency.

 The equipment which were formally handed over at a brief ceremony at the EFCC Headquarters in Abuja by Oliver Blake, Team Leader, Governance and Social Development, UK Department for International Development, DFID were received by the new Secretary to the Commission, Adegboyega Aremo. Speaking before the presentation, Blake highlighted the importance of IT equipment in combating criminal activities. The equipment according to him would improve Commission's forensic capabilities.
Responding, Secretary to the Commission, Adegboyega Aremo thanked the UK Government for the assistance.
He said the equipment would further boost the Commission's effort in the fight against economic and financial crimes. He noted that the initial assistance of the UK Government in the provision of modern equipment to the Commission enabled it to commence full digital forensic analytical work adding that with the latest assistance the forensic analytical capacity of the Commission would be further boosted.
The SOCA team were later taken on a brief tour of the Commission's forensic laboratory by the EFCC head of Forensic, Benedict Agweye.
