About 2 weeks ago, I shared a post (READ HERE) of how a group of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria Mechanical Engineering students broke the record for being the first
Nigerian university to produce 2 home made cars weighing only about 205kg ( mark you, the average weight of an everyday car is 1300kg).
Last year (September, 2014), they started building the car to compete in
Shell Eco Marathon in Europe (May, 2015). The sole aim of this
competition which has been Chiefly organised by Shell is to push
boundaries of power efficiency (be it gasoline, electricity,hydrogen,
solar etc) and also to give young engineering students in higher
institutions the opportunity to showcase their talents in engineering.
In the year 2013, Shell brought this golden opportunity to the
Nigerian students in Universities. Only three(3) universities were selected to participate namely; Continue after the cut...
- Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna State
- University of Benin, Edo State, and:
- University of Lagos, Lagos State
And they were challenged to build a very light car that would travel the
farthest distance with the least amount of power(like I said, it could
be electricity, fuel, solar etc). And this is what they came up with. See the pictures in series below from the framework to completion. I think this is really a great achievement for Nigeria.
